Mosquito Magnet Liberty PlusThe Liberty Plus model is one of the only effective cordless mosquito traps on the market. Much like the lower-rated (but comparably-priced) Independence MM3200, the Liberty Plus boasts a full one-acre of coverage from mosquitoes. But unlike the Independence, the Liberty Plus doesn’t seem to have the same issues with faulty manufacturing.

This particular model is definitely one of the pricier mosquito magnet models, but if you need greater protection than what the 1/2 acre Mosquito Magnet Defender can provide, the Liberty Plus is probably your best option.

We’ve meticulously combed through dozens of real users’ experiences and testimonials regarding the Liberty Plus to give you the good AND the bad…and we’ve summarized those findings below.

The Good
  • Effective Mosquito Trapper – the Liberty Plus is one of the, if not the most, effective mosquito magnet models available. Owners largely agree that it does what it’s supposed to.
  • Up to 1-Acre of Coverage – the Liberty Plus covers up to 1-acre which provides more protection than the Defender (the other 4-star model)
  • Cordless – The cordless Liberty Plus gives you the flexibility of placing the Magnet virtually anywhere in your yard – this helps draw the mosquitoes away from high-traffic areas that you and your family tend to gather.
The Bad
  • Durability – as with all Mosquito Magnet models, some users complain that there have been problems with the durability after 2-3 seasons of continuous use.
  • Continuous Use and Upkeep – to effectively interrupt the mosquito breeding cycle, the Liberty Plus must be run continuously for weeks at a time. This means that the propane tank must be re-filled approximately every 3 weeks and that the Octenol attractant (or Lurex if you’re in the South) needs to be replaced every month while in use.
  • Price – at over $600, this is one of the pricier mosquito traps on the market. With the additional pricing of repeated propane tank refills and Octenol replacements, the money spent over time adds up quickly.

Andy D:

I debated for a while about dropping over $500 for a backyard gizmo, but after dealing with one too many summers not being able to enjoy my yard – the sprays and candles were completely useless after about 10 minutes! – my wife and I decided to go for it. This machine has been a godsend to our family – our kids can now play outside after dusk and we don’t have to worry as much about them getting bitten. I won’t deny that the traps do require maintenance (and a continued investment on propane tanks and attractants), but in our mind it’s a small price to pay for an enjoyable summer.

M.D. Paolini – Boca Raton, FL:

Like many Internet-savvy customers, I did a lot of research before purchasing my MM Liberty Plus. Most of the research available shows that the Mosquito Magnet works much better than competitive units.

While I did not do a scientific study of this unit compared to others, I can tell you that I am amazed how well the Mosquito Magnet has worked for us. Every 21-22 days we replace the propane tank (there is a nice light you can see from yards away to tell you when it is time) and the attractant, and I empty the very full bag at least once per week…

The only area that I think needs improvement is the plastic down-pipe and base of the unit. For such a professional product, I would have expected these pieces to be stronger feeling, maybe even made out of metal. But they work fine, and I’m sure there was a good reason the manufacturer chose this design (maybe other designs would have rusted, for example).

Final Verdict:

Much like the Defender (the only other four-star Mosquito Magnet), the Liberty Plus gets 5-stars in terms of effectiveness in catching mosquitoes and protecting your yard. BUT, it’s hard to give a five-star rating to a mosquito trap that costs over $600 when you calculate the additional costs associated with propane and Octenol refills.

Yes, the Liberty Plus offers up to a full acre of coverage but we feel as though you can get virtually the same product at half the price with the Mosquito Magnet Defender MM4000. BUT, if you have a very large yard or NEED the extended coverage, you can’t go wrong with the Liberty Plus.
